Mall of America

60 E Broadway, Bloomington, MN 55425

The Mall of America is one place in Minneapolis you have to go and experience just to say you’ve done it at least once in your life. With 520 stores, 50 restaurants and the largest indoor theme park in the nation, it’s a great place to spend an unexpected rainy day. One of the best parts about the MOA — you don’t pay sales tax on the clothing and shoes you purchase!

Minnehaha Park

4801 S Minnehaha Drive Minneapolis MN 55417

It may have a funny name (I mean it has “haha” in it), but there’s nothing funny about Minnehaha Park. One of the oldest parks in Minneapolis, this popular park attracts many visitors with its numerous types of trees and flowers, bike paths and its gorgeous flowing 53-foot waterfall, Minnehaha Falls. Enjoy a nice summer day outside with your whole family and learn a little of Minnesota’s history here.

Chain of Lakes

Multiple locations

Another fun and free outdoor spot in Minneapolis is the Chain of Lakes. Five bodies of water make up this area: Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, Cedar Lake, Brownie Lake and Lake of the Isles. Rent a boat and take it out on Lake Calhoun or layout on the beach during the day and then listen to live music at night on Lake Harriet. Canoeing from Lake Calhoun to Brownie Lake is another option. During the summer there’s always plenty to do at the Chain of Lakes.

When you come to Minneapolis, you don’t just want to witness what this city has to offer, you want to experience it. And there’s no better way to experience a city than through its free activities. Before booking your family vacation, check out these family-friendly Minneapolis hotels.
